Babcock Ranch is the World's First Solar Town!
In 2005, Syd Kitson, founder and CEO of Kitson & Partners (a Florida real estate company), began the process of working with the heirs of Edward Babcock and the state of Florida to purchase Babcock Ranch located in Charlotte County. His vision was to offer conservation goals to part of the property at Babcock Ranch. The image above by Babcock Ranch is taken of their solar field.
The vision of Babcock Ranch is to include over 19,000 residences with a population of about 50,000. Babcock Ranch has worked with FPL to be able to provide solar power to the community during the day and natural gas at night. The town will include a downtown that will serve as a social hub for people in the community. The community's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) school will open Fall 2017 for grades through 6th grade.
